LTC Range Qualification

This course is an in-person range qualification where the participant will demonstrate proficiency in handgun safety, proper use of their firearm, and pass a live fire test (shooting test). Upon successfully passing the LTC Range Qualification, the participant will receive documentation required to submit for their LTC license.

Components of the LTC Range Qualification

  1. Firearm Safety Briefing:
    • Basic firearm safety rules.
    • Safe storage and handling of firearms.
  2. Demonstrate Handgun Operation Basics:
    • Firearm controls
    • Loading and unloading
    • Grip and stance
  3. Review of Malfunctions and Clearing:
    • Failure to fire
    • Failure to eject
    • Double feed
  4. Range Commands Briefing:
    • Review of commands used during the Range Qualification
  5. LTC Pre-Qualification Review:
    • Target
    • Scoring
    • Rounds to shoot
    • Distances
    • Minimum score
  6. LTC Qualification – Live Fire

Requirements for the LTC Range Qualification

The LTC Range Qualification occurs in an indoor shooting range. Participants must sign the shooting range’s waiver and follow all range safety rules. Shooting range fees are the responsibility of the participant (approximately $20).

Participants should bring the following items to the LTC Range Qualification:

  • Approved LTC-104 (for classroom or online training)
  • Identification (Drivers license or similar government issued ID)
  • Handgun
  • 150 rounds of ammunition for their handgun
  • B-27 target (green, blue, black or red only)
  • Eye protection
  • Ear protection

If the participant cannot bring a handgun, ammunition, target or ear/eye protection, these items are available for purchase/rental at the shooting range.
